Rowlands Castle ‘Traditional Style’ Village Fair
Welcome to the Rowlands Castle village fair 2015!
This year we have worked as hard as we can to make the 4th July another great day during which the entire village can enjoy the attractions of a traditional English village fete. As usual there are a large range of stalls offering all manner of goodies from home baked pies, to cakes, fudge, greeting cards, handbags and leather bags and household plants. After such glorious Spring weather this year, be sure to check out the entries to the Horticultural Show in the marquee as I am sure we will have a bumper crop of entries. As every year, we have the children’s funfair with ride prices being kept to just 50p a go so the little ones can have loads of fun without emptying their piggy banks – or your wallets. Stansted Farm shop will be on the Green providing hot food and wood-fi red pizzas all day long and there are an abundance of other options for refreshment available from traditional ice-cream van to a lovely cup of tea.
On the Green itself we will have the return of the much loved Professor Crump (complete with unicycle and horn, balloon animals, magic tricks and size 20 shoes), traditional Punch and Judy shows (at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30), rides on a mini traction engine, music from local street musicians and a packed program of events in the arena.
These include Horndean school Steel band to kick the day off to a great start and then at 12:00 the opening speeches and prize giving. We also have a dog show and fancy dress competition (with prizes), demonstrations from Castle United football team, children’s races, tug of war, and two working sheepdog shows. Finishing off with the draw for the raffl e prizes, there will be something for all ages to enjoy.
To assist the day’s enjoyment, the fair committee members, along with eager volunteers from within the village, will be running our own bar on the Green throughout the day’s events and the evening’s entertainment. This allows us set our own low prices and, with virtually no overheads, the profi ts go straight to the village fund, even though prices will be less than pub ones so please make full use of it! This is especially true in the evening, as we all dance the night away. So, please, you really don’t need to bring your own.
The evening event stars local singer Rachel Hawnt with her band, Great Scott, with a lineup of all the classic anthems from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s that will get one and all up and dancing. Between sets, and also to end the evening in style, we will have a professional DJ playing the platters that matter! It really will be a great night out for only £12.50 a ticket.
I look forward to seeing you all on the day.
